Female Fronted Metal

Female Fronted Metal describes metal bands (mainly symphonic metal and gothic metal) that have female vocalists in their lineups. These female vocalists are usually (but not always) the main singers, and may or may not be the bands frontwoman, but are often featured prominently during live performances and recordings, thus the band being referred to as “Female Fronted”. I have no problem with the term "fronted." It doesn't mean "led" to me. A vocalist typically stands at the front of a band, making them the frontperson. I do have a problem with idiotic promo photos blurring out the other band members in the background, as in Almost Famous. Which was about an all-male band. >_>

Most people probably don't really think about the fact that the rest of the band has just as much importance in the band, and in some cases the singer isn't even as involved as other members. I'm a little sad that you turned your good, well thought out comment into a sexist remark at the end, though (The part abut needing a sexy girl to sell the music). I also agree with fischziege, though -- I use this tag because it helps me keep track of the different ways that bands sound -- female voices as opposed to male voices.

Catchy melodies. Song structure is very similar to the kind you will find in pop rock. I mean... that's just obvious. They are not pop like Britney Spears, but they are a form of pop music.

i see your point and i agree on some level. some thoughts though: metal is pop. they are selling a variety of images. these images might differ from the ashley simpson pop, but the basic rules apply. the more mainstream metal needs to conform to stay in the competition. i dont have a problem with that. this tag doesnt only apply to your definition and use of the concept behind it. it is usefull to me because i enjoy female voices in metal (the harsher, more agressive kind, not so much the opera divas...). tagging is an organisational tool, not some philosophical statement about postmodern analasys of the art its applied to. not mainly anyways. great to see smbdy with principles though.
