Fado

Fado (translated as destiny or fate) is a music genre which can be traced from the 1820s in Portugal, but probably with much earlier origins. In popular belief, Fado is a form of music characterized by mournful tunes and lyrics, often about the sea or the life of the poor. fodes... caga nisso! it doesn't matter wher she's from... and cabo verde has (and there's no choice) connections to portugal and its history...i guess sometimes distinguishing between different directions of musical development are quite diffivult and that's why it should be tolearated (though cesaria maybe is no real fado)

Cesaria appears here basically because she sings a song that calls Fado, which is amazing...I recommend to you that beautifull song. It lyric is based on - as normally happens in songs of Fado - sadness or what in portugues is called Saudade...

How did Cesaria end up in this tag, especially as one of its top artists? She's not a fadista folks. She's not even Portuguese and sings in a Portuguese based creole, not Portuguese itself. She's from Cabo Verde and sings Morna.
