deleted-user is right. It's not a fusion genre of goth and punk per say. It was originally not directly interchangeable with goth. It evolved out of the US punk scene completely unaware of the stuff occurring in the UK. In fact it had nothing to do with goth until a US band visited and played the batcave, when the two scenes started influencing each other. HOWEVER, due to recent events (read: marilyn manson, mallgoths, evanesance) many have started to adopt "deathrock" to refer to both the original goth bands AND deathrock bands. Others have started to refer to bands as "batcave" as a genre and not just a club, regardless if they played there or not. Who cares -- because, for now, we have some great music in this tag :>
