Dark Electro

Dark electro is a similar style, developed in the mid-1990s in central Europe. The term describes groups such as yelworC and Placebo Effect, and was first used in December 1992 with the album announcement of Brainstorming, yelworC’s debut. I couldn't help but laugh after reading the discussion about this classification. I have to admit it took me a while to figure out my favorite strand of techno, and I only use the term as I used to classify everything with a synth or dance beat as techno. It wasn't until now that I've started fine tuning my tastes, but I still feel Dark Electro is a BS tag. Then again, I also think there is a lot of techno or dance influence with EBM music, so making a more distinct brand called TBM makes no sense to me. I only listen to EBM, Aggrotech, and the other less attractive sounding genre's because of their roots to techno/dance, which even now I could call electro-industrial as it seems to cover almost all of those styles.

Dudes, you're forgetting something. The very origins of electronic music, within a wide market was both with Kraftwerk and Skinny Puppy, Throbbing Gristle, etc.. who coined the term "Industrial". This was LONG before pop, trance, dance, else appeared. They didn't even make the synths we know now. So, in a way, ebm can't used to name everything else. With trance, its foundation is EBM made soft. But its not the same, so it can't be named in the same way. The Aggrotech thing, is one of those difficult questions. I'd say Xentrifuge, Life Cried, Wynardtage and related ar Aggrotech. Lets say, bands that sound heavier than the average, but that's only the way I clasify them, after copying people who have listened to industrial for a longer time than me.

It's kinda the same lineage for this genre too. The trance synths are just less heavenly and sound more like hard trance synths... and synthpop is a big influence too (for futurepop)

what the funk is aggrotech? What could that even mean - 'aggressive' + 'techno'? That would make no sense because there is literally 0 techno influence in all of these. No noteworthy person or group has coined this term.. all there is, is a Wikipedia article made up by some random.
