The definition of contemporary jazz here is: "Jazz from late part of the 20th century and 21st century.". Your Google searches and such returned many smooth jazz artists; could this not be because most jazz from the late 20th and 21st centuries is smooth jazz (and not any other sub-genre/form of jazz)?

PS: That the terms contemporary jazz and smooth jazz are synonymous is stated in the 1st paragraph of the Wikepedia entry for "smooth jazz." Also if you google Contemporary Jazz, you'll come up with a lot of smooth jazz entries. Perhaps there's more than one valid way to use the term? Again...thoughts anyone?

I'm confused about this tag. I've used it recently, mostly because it links in with this and connected artists. However, the term Contemporary Jazz, as generally used, is a synonym for "Smooth Jazz" of which, for example, The Bad Plus is obviously not an example among many others tagged here. I thought of Current Jazz, or 21Century Jazz, or something--but these would remain as just my own private tags. Any thoughts?Anybody?
