Big beat

Big beat (sometimes called chemical breaks) is a term first employed in the early 80s, by the British music press - gaining popularity in the mid 90s, in description of the music of The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, The Crystal Method, Propellerheads & The Prodigy, that relied on beat-driven, drum-heavy mixes. I was born in the late 90's but man this genre makes me want to have lived the entire 90's... Wish big beat was still big today, but I guess what big beat was to the 90's, dubstep is to the 2010's. What a shame. And my personal favourites? Propellerheads, Junkie XL, The Chemical Brothers & Fluke.

Fun fact: Tom Morello of RATM probably endorses this style...he even collaborated with two of the major big beat bands.
