Co-sign this below. Some of the earliest pop music genres are "race" and "hillbilly" — later "rhythm & blues" and "country & western" which refer to black and white people respectively... they fused for a short while under the banner "rock and roll" but then were split off again into "soul" & "funk" & "urban" vs. "rock" & "folk" & "country". They remain racial codewords. If we can tag "black rock" why can't we tag "blue-eyed soul"? (I've never heard the term "white soul" used, always this euphemism.)
