Anti-Folk

The music sub-genre known as anti-folk (or antifolk) takes the earnestness of politically charged 1960s music and subverts it. Most would accept that the music tends to sound raw or experimental. Post-modern and self-conscious, it also generally mocks the seriousness and pretension of the established mainstream music scene in addition to mocking itself; some argue this makes it contrived and pretentious itself. Why would you want to be anti-folk? Folk music is wonderful! If you don't like folk music, that's fine, but why not make music in a genre that you like rather than trashing other genres?

what gets me is how they ALWAYS come around defacing anything anti-folk. I sometimes look at just "what" these people like --- mostly american (pop) idol crap & the crap disney pushes on kids. now when i was a kid, we got crap for being into punk rock & hating the "dinosaur bands". it took years before punk became "cool" - so cool that most of what was being marketed as punk was really power pop.
