Generation X is the generation of people whose cultural influence peaked in the 1990s.

We are generation X. Our cultural influences peaked in the nineties. We were maximally virile during the top days of , , , , , , , and many more. We became free thinking individuals in the world of globalization, HIV awareness, the first Gulf war, personal computers and the internet, which brought us here together.

I think a bit of bleeding through the separating line happens, though. So it's normal for say, TrevorCold, to identify with the generation.

There's a lot of debate about actual dates because the advertisers got hold of it once they realized we were all depressed and might buy stuff. Then it got confused with "twenty-somethings". I think leaving it as just "most active in the '90s" though is misleading. There were a lot of really active younger siblings of Gen-xers in the 6th grade back then. Also, the '90s were owned by the latter half of our generation: it leaves out the whole group of folks who were clubbing in the '80s. If the Newsweek article circa 1993 was talking about your life at the time of the publication, or if it was predicting what your life would be like in the next 5 years from that date, you are Gen-X. If your parents are boomers, but you just started or are just finishing college, you are Gen-Y.

Born between '62 and '79 is what I remember reading in a book on the subject. Whatever.. as long as '78 is in there I'm happy. Mid 90s was a great time for us on the music scene. Then the recording industry pushed our artists out of the spotlight to make room for a more lucrative endeavor: gen y.
