Hi you and 'anybody out there' !
we think its high time that musicians and artists raise their voices - again - about society, politics, spiritual development and all the rest. When Prog started every Album was listend to, interpreted and discussed, was a source of inspiration and often insight in and for our common quest for understanding and orientation in this crazy world.
The journey into the magical realms of music opened our minds and hearts for the love between us and for this wonderful planet.
There are signs of a beginning evolution of minds into this direction.
Looked at it from this perspective even our 'unimportant' band (Members between 35 and 48) feels like a sign of the times.
If you somehow can connect to this way of thinking, we are happy to introduce ourselves to you plus some thoughts of the beforementioned kind.
SUPERDRAMA was founded in 2004 by English & politics teacher, singer & keyboarder Robert Gozon and writer, conciousness teacher and drummer Robert Stein-Holzheim under the project name ‚Noble Effort’.
This is what it seemed like to start a sophisticated Art Rock Project whilst having a full schedule already. The results of the cooperation, however, justified the effort.
After a few changes of the line-up during the first year the actual magical cast formed.
Thomas Klarmann, experienced bass player and Michael Hahn, guitar, with an exceptional talent for melodies, completed the band.
The style developed into musical storytelling, corresponding with spiritual lyrics tampering with the big questions like „What is this Life?“, „What can we expect after Death?“ and „How can we live in Love?“
After an orgiastic ending of a song during rehearsal someone shouted out:
“Sounding like this we could just as well call ourselves ‚SUPERDRAMA’.
So we did.
Sometimes all the pieces fit together.
So the name became the ‚leitmotiv’.
Powerful, yet complex and beautifully melodic with meaningful lyrics SUPERDRAMA is picking up where the classical progressive rock era ended much too soon.
Lovers of Yes, Genesis, King Crimson and Van der Graaf Generator rejoice at the appearance of new original material on such an artful level of composition.
Unlike some developments in recent progressive rock it is not about ‚as many odd meters and complicated structures as possible’ to ‚show off’, but everything is serving the musical purpose, creating a coherent flow of emotional and inspirational contingencies for the listener.
About Music, Magic & Politics
Music is a dimension of the spirit, thus it is a spiritual dimension.
Music is transcendent, bodiless and yet can touch and move you like nothing else.
In the seventies we favoured the spiritual mind as a means to change the world for the better. A whole generation oriented themselves anew towards the direction of love & understandig and gained a consciousness of global community.
We did change the world and opened the perception of many in beforehand unimaginable ways, but had to acknowledge at the same time that greed, egoism and the fear-born use of power will not go away for a long time, if ever.
So naive Neo-Romanticism had to die.
What lingers is the ever lively message of the complexity and beauty of life and our eternal souls, expressed through music.
As you may have guessed by now, our music is not primarily meant for dancing, but rather for flying ... :-)
So music alone didn’t make the world a better place.
This disappointment caused many to break and change for the worse.
Some, although, became strategic fighters and gained astoundig success like Joschka Fischer.
But the youth wouldn’t listen anymore to what artists – the prophets of the common soul – had to say, many became silent. This lead to pure commercialism and the so-called ‚fun society’ without depth where the good feeling for the moment meant all. A whole young generation withdrew from working with content back to a tribal feeling without words. I was with you when you first took the pill. We were family – but without any impact and our love parade meant nothing and died of emptiness.
Now we are about to enter the next phase of development.
We tried, we were disappointed, we drew back, but we’re still here.
Never in history have there been so many humans knowing, what we know, feeling for the planet as we do, having heard and seen the art and artists of freedom for at least 40 years and having the means to support the change. Now with less illusions, lots of experience and professionalism. Obama is a symbol of this approach and we wish him well.
Society is about to enter an age of Neo-Renaissance.
A time where we stop reducing everything to its monetarian value.
Where we start to understand ourselves better.
Where the unconsciousness of our minds is not to be feared, but to be cherished.
A time where diversity, complexity, all arts and ways to express the magic of life will be valued again.
Admittedly, this is all very young and fragile.
And we as musicians shall be humble – if we inspire souls to feel their own inner beauty just for a moment, we bow and smile ... and did, what we came for ;-)
Composing: Constructing or Channeling?
Writing music often is an unimaginable miracle for non musicians.
So it is for us :-) But for different reasons.
Of course one can construct music by using rhythm, harmony and standard structures, glueing them in a row of stancer, bridge, stancer, chorus, repeat, ready! Turn on your radio and you know what I mean.
This ‚putting together’ a song is a valuable craftsmanship in itself. Any composer must aspire mastership to freely work with these structures.
But this is not yet art.
As an artist, mastering the means is important - mainly to be ready, when inspiration comes and takes us up on our promise to express truthfully the movements of the soul. Now these moments are extraordinary for any single artist in whatever art. When this happens within a group of people it’s very, very special. And very rare. It doesn’t feel like doing something anymore but rather like serving the entity of the composition in order to incarnate in an audible form, while the inner emotional logic and flow of the music dictates what happens and what we have to search for in the process.
Working in SUPERDRAMA has always followed this dynamic, we often only hardly keep up with the tempo in which the ideas and musical structures unfold. We understand each other blindly and are – afterwards - often challenged to perform adequately what came to us ... from ... somewhere above? ... somewhere within?
We are greatful to share this experience in the band and the results in concert with you.

We would be grateful to have you joining our group and discussing the thesis & thoughts of this short article in our forum. We really want to know how the progressive world feels and thinks today :-) My guess is that we are connected on more levels than just listening to similar music ...
