WORLD PREMIERE, SYDNEY EXCLUSIVE
August 2011 – After ten years together and three critically acclaimed albums, Danish band Efterklang began writing their next album with no foreseeable deadline – until a Vivid LIVE commission changed their entire approach. On May 26th Efterklang will make their Australian debut performance at Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Symphony. The event will be a worldwide premiere of the music from the group’s forthcoming album Piramida, due for release on the prestigious 4AD label later this year.
Working towards their Australian debut, Efterklang have stripped back their songwriting to fully integrate with the Sydney Symphony, conducted by Matthew Coorey. Having spent the past year collaborating with classical arrangers Missy Mazzoli (Kronos Quartet, Victoire), Karsten Fundal (Under Byen, Oh Land) & Daniel Bjarnason (Sigur Rós, Múm), the trio feel Sydney Opera House is the perfect place to mark a new beginning, on the grounds that fellow Dane Jørn Utzon designed nearly sixty years ago.
