The second Uber 0f 2012 sees a Carlisle debut from a starlet who has been right at the forefront of musical innovation since his explosion onto the dance music fraternity in the late nineties; James Zabiela. The fop haired technical superstar won Muzik’s feted ‘Bedroom Bedlam’ completion back in 1999 and hasn’t looked back since. The authority on Pioneer’s CDJ deck, he has been the most respected voice on the most influential piece of kit to infiltrate djing since the Technics 1210, his peerless technical ability now incorporating an iPad into his sets for a rambunctious tour de force of tricks and wow factor, technique and wizardry.
But James isn’t all fancy flicks and clever cuts. His musical scope is as fearlessly wide ranging as his sense of adventure in the way he presents it, blending mesmerising techno with gut shaking house grooves. One of the first big league DJs to pick up on the nascent bass scene, he was dropping the exciting sounds of the new wave of producers such as Scuba and Appleblim long before they were en vogue, and it was even at his bequest that they made their debut at Ibiza’s premier disco in the summer, We Love... Space. Always one step ahead of the curve, Uber is extremely proud to invite another legend of dance music down to their Carlisle.
The support is ferocious. Soma Darlings Silicon Soul return to Uber, their atmospheric and drum heavy sound flirting between the darker 3am moments and the sun kissed house which they first came to prominence with back with the glorious Curtis Mayfield sampling ‘Right On’. Snowbombing supremo Marc Roberts, the former Iron Maiden chaperone turned groove infiltrator, also makes the trip up north to rock Carlisle for his frist gig in the city.
There are also maiden sets from the Carl Cox and Pete Tong championed Nelski and highly regarded rave vixen Gemma Furbank. Nelski is a scouse ex-pat currently delivering his assault on the senses brand of electronic music via his London base. All dramatic stabs and killer breakdowns, his ear for a solid rave hook has already seen the best of the best get behind him with world domination an inevitability. Furbank herself is similarly placed, her rapid rise assured resulting in her Globe Trotting to play numerous International gig's, headlining many Ministry Of Sound World Tours, signing with Union Label, as well as a sponsorship deal with Fly 53, and Vestax giving Gemma their latest equipment to test drive.
