An old friend of mine convinced me to listen to Alexisonfire's Old Crows / Young Cardinals today - better than I was expecting it to be even though I wasn't super fond of the "hardcore" type vocal parts. A lot of it was actually very melodic and pleasant.
I just found out Tobacco released an EP of Maniac Meat era cuts via BandCamp called Mystic Thickness. I'm about to give that a whirl. Tom Fec is like an electronic Kurt Cobain to me - turning something on its head and stripping it down to such a raw sound. I think these types of musicians are the true pioneers - not concerned about meeting any kind of pre-defined expectation or neccessarily fitting into some kind of genre box.
I've really been addicted to The Magic Whip lately as well. I love that it doesn't try to insist upon being some ultra-significant comeback - it's just a collection of really good (albeit mostly mellow) songs by a group of guys who just happened to not have released an album in many years.
