Fev 9 2012, 12h33 por ChesterWhelksAs is to be expected from a band as long lastingly idiosyncratic as Sonic Youth, their birth was not an easy thing. Confusion Is Sex is sparse and brooding, shot-through with the screeching molestation of electric guitar that would underpin their sound for the duration of their career. Cultured in the shadow of avant garde guitarist Glenn Branca, in whose band Lee Ranaldo learned his trade, their first album proper is also steeped in the ambient experimentation of their No Wave influences, and cuts a twisted figure. When at 1:38 into the ominous drone of "freezer burn" a cover of The Stooges' "I Wanna Be Your Dog" smashes through, scaring the bejeesus out of you, it's as though this juxtaposition is a formula for everything to come.
Mai 1 2010, 23h45 por grungemaniaMy list does not include compilations, bootlegs, b-side/rarities or the Sonic Youth Recordings (SYR) series. This is completely subjective, so no one will agree with me completely. Favorite tracks are listed chronologically from each album.

Fev 13 2010, 2h23 por ZeppledelinPerhaps not intentional, but Jimbobbins' late comment on my age-old list of debut albums made me realize how long it has been since my last journal post. Thanks for the much-needed inspiration. So, here’s another go at it, not only because I felt the old list needed an update, but also since I still have an affinity toward the unadulterated sincerity of debut albums. Let’s do a top 30 this time, shall we?
30. Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
The old school has a tendency to grow tedious; their innovations not so apparent anymore, but at least some of them retain their awesomeness. In this case it is possibly a matter of never being revolutionary, rather rock solid, wrapping together the best parts of their gangsta roots and adding a pleasant, if not entirely dead serious Eastern mysticism to the mix. And they did have humor, an incredible flow, personality and coolness, and the Wu-Tang definitely weren’t nothing to fuck with.

Nov 19 2008, 22h49 por dahnraelzInspired by my friend Archnihil, I
decided to make a list of 100 albums. Instead of calling them a must-listen (since I don't believe in musical objectivity), these are the albums that define me and my musical taste.
Both categories are in alphabetical order by groups.
The best (albums that stun me with their beauty, make me happy just because they are perfect and hypnotize me)
1. Megalazottak es megszomoritottak by After Crying
Hauntingly beautiful. Although fairly different from the rest of AC's discography, this is the one-of-two best albums.
2. Overground Music by After Crying
First AC album, much more progrockish than Megalazottak and equally good.
3. Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles
4. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles
5. White Album by The Beatles
While not a good three albums for an interesting top-list, Beatles are one of those classics I love.
6. Burn the Maps by The Frames
The very best album of Frames. Very powerful.
7. Franz Ferdinand by Franz Ferdinand

Jul 17 2006, 16h32 por FloydG060. Liliput - Some Songs
059. Since I Left You
058. VIVA! La Woman
057. Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde
056. Rock Action
055. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain
054. Grotesque (After The Gramme)
053. Bad Moon Rising
052. White Light/White Heat
051. Half Machine Lip Moves
050. Fear of a Black Planet
049. Love Kraft
Not usually being the type of fella for downloading leaks, the hubbub surrounding Love Kraft's initial dissemination amongst the board members entirely bypassed me, so this effectively works as my belated entry. And I pick it as one of the most impressive albums of the last 5 or so years, a truly sumptuous record which may be lacking in the kinetic charge of previous works, but compensates with a stunning musical sophistication. Whilst I do not wish to claim that previous SFA albums are superficial, it is nevertheless the case that the density of Love Kraft easily sets it apart, the heavy strings creating a substantial atmosphere which runs throughout the entirety of the album…
