• My Favourite Albums. (Updated 12/20: Subject To Change)

    Ago 15 2006, 5h43 por vandaleyes

I've come to the conclusion that it is going to take me many years before I can come up with a decent comprehensive list, "top 100" so to speak, of my favourite albums. When I decided to make a list of the best albums I have ever heard I realized that there are so many that I haven't yet listened to or listened to enough to decide.

So this is what I've got so far. I'm basically just compiling a list for now, but I will add commentary and favourite track lists at a later date. I will also [frequently edit my list as I hear more albums and decide they're worthy of making this list.

These albums were chosen mostly for personal reasons and I really appreciate genre-defying and innovative albums, you know, ones that have made a big impact on music. So pardon me if most of these seem a bit cliche. That's completely unimportant to me.
P.S. These are only in alphabetical order by artist, but maybe someday I will organize them by preference.

    Aesop Rock
    Labor Day

    Air
    Moon Safari

Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, not matter how embarassing.
Step 3: Bold out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

This is the fourth time or third or some number-th time I've tried to post something like this today. Hopefully, this time it will work and I can stop feeling doggedly determined to post a meme and do my dishes instead. (HA!) Sometimes I think I went a bit beyond the first line, but whatever.

    1. Catherine liked high places.
    2. Let me take you on a trip around the world and back.
    3. I've been dryin' for it, buggin' again, now it won't bend.
    4. Don't you wanna feel it inside?
    5. You've got a rocket inside your bullet head.
    6. The room is cold, and it's been like this for several days.
    7. Didn't really want to hold your hand.
    8. No fun, my babe, no fun.

See how bored I am? Yeah. Go on, you know the drill.

Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, not matter how embarrassing.
Step 3: Bold out the songs when someone guesses both artist and track correctly.
Step 4: Looking them upon Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

    1. Don't wanna be second best, don't wanna stand in line, don't wanna fall behind.
    Miniature Disasters

    2. Oh, my love, oh, my love, i can't hear you, my love, tell me where have you gone?

    A Place Called Home

    Work Your Way Out

    7. I don't think you love me, confusion settling in.

Just a bunch of my favourite YouTube videos...

My favourites page is here, should you want it.

Sadly, I've had to edit out some ace Pere Ubu vids as they're currently flipping their wig about people uploading to YouTube without first seeking permission - article here. However, I can steer you to a rather wonderful article by David Thomas called "Ghoulardi - Lessons in Mayhem from the 1st Age of Punk" - and, amazingly, there's even a clip of Ghoulardi on YouTube. Tangenetially connected, Richard Lloyd is now playing with the resurrected "Rocket From The Tombs", but here's some Television clips:

    Foxhole
    Pretty amazing couple of clips:
Tom Verlaine teaching Richard Hell Venus! - part two

Animal Collective are a band who finally seem to be getting the recognition they deserve...they realy are one of the most startingly original and inventive acts around. Finding these two clips at 4am in the morning made my entire week, if not my month. …

Since today I have broken 100 albums with #101 The Damned-Damned Damned Damned, I decided to repost my still pathetic album collection. • Peace & Love 2006 - The Friday

    Jul 18 2006, 9h54 por helikoppter

After a bad night's sleep, a morning visit to Kupolen and Systembolaget and some laid back drinking in the grass, the Peace & Love festival finally started at 15.30 on Friday July 7. We were just about to leave for Timo Räisänen when we notice that one of the guys putting up a tent beside ours is somebody I know from home! Some introductions later, my sister and I hurried to the festival area as we wanted to see as much as possible of Timo's performance before moving on to the next band. We got there during the first song and stayed till the last. He was just amazing!!! Although we had planned on getting a glimpse of The Animal Five, that we'd heard a lot of good stuff about, we just couldn't leave...

When Timo was done on the big stage, Alf entered the stage in the park. I had heard a lot of good things about his debut and had even listened some to his second album, but on stage he wasn't anything special. So we left for the camping area to hang out with some friends from here.
  • Hawkwind / Patti Smith / SAHB

    Jul 14 2006, 22h09 por rzappa

    OK here goes,

41 & never written an on-line journal before.
Currently listening to Hawkwind Live Chronicles.

I've loved this band since In Search of Space. Live is very techie, whereas ISOS has some acoustic instruments (like clarinet) as well as synths.

The early stuff led me on to Gong & even Patti Smith, but its all space rock to me.

I'm currently working through transferring my old vinyl to my PC, so there's still room for a lot of old stuff to come across. Hopefully I can add an entry for the albums I do bring. Each one needs copied to disc, split into tracks then converted to mp3.

I haven't seen much live music recently - something I hope to change. The most recent was The Sensational Alex Harvey Band (obviously without Alex). Great concert - Max Maxwell isn't Alex, but he made a good frontman nevertheless.

    -----------------------------------------------------
    Silver Jews [6/10]
    Pleasant, but not fantastic.

    Elias & The Wizzkids [9/10]
Wow! Give this band a record deal asap!

    Ed Harcourt [4/10]
Hmm... nah, neh... why Ed, why!?

    Robyn Hitchcock & The Minus 3 [5/10]
Nothing spectacular about it... surf rockish stuff.

    Johnossi [9/10]
Delivered their stuff with A+ grades as always! Don't miss Johnossi live if you have the opportunity.

    The New York Dolls [7/10]
Old guys... but hey, they still know how to deliver.

    Patti Smith [10/10]
Wow! This is by far one of the best conserts I've seen! Patti has more rock in her than most bands at the festival has together. People have the power! I was stunned afterwards. It was nice to se Peter Buck from R.E.M. enter the stage to play the last 2-3 songs with Patti... Gloria, the last song she played was fantastic+++.

    The Essex Green [8/10]
Never heard them before, but they one now of my favourite bands.

What can I say, I love these things.

    Rules:

Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 25 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

    1. Soldiers come quickly, I feel the earth beneath my feet
    2. You say you fell while holding diamonds in your hand
    3. Last time I saw you, you were on stage
    4. Is there anybody going to listen to my story all about the girl who came to stay?
    5. I'm not gonna lie, not gonna make up my mind tonight
    6. Your love is better than ice cream, better than anything else that I've tried
    7. I slept all day, I woke with distaste
    8. I've just seen a face, I can't forget the time or place
    9. You stay until you're good and raw, back and forth a little see-saw
    10. I tell you how I feel, but you don't care
