Saw him futzing around for the 100000th time in a church where the Dead C performed. He was doing all sorts of funny maneuvers in order to see them play because it was hard to make anything out since everyone was sitting in pews.
I wrote an article about From Here To Infinity and the vinyl format, if y'all are interested http://decemberembers.wordpress.com/2012/09/19/i-hope-you-will-drop-the-diamond-in-a-groove-and-let-it-ride-awhile-lee-ranaldos-from-here-to-infinity-as-an-exemplary-physical-album/
I agree. It's alright, I like where he's going, I always wanted Lee to release an album of sweet tunes along the lines of hey joni or something like that. but yeah, slightly disappointing but still solid.
It's definitely a very good record, and I look forward to many more albums like this from him, if Sonic Youth are no more. Inevitably, I think we all expected an album full of his Sonic Youth one-per-album classics, and really, people can only write awesome songs once in a while -- making an album full of them is a grand challenge. I look forward to seeing him live, if I get the chance to!
It's a bit of a disappointment, yes. Some of the songs are really great, and most of them are good, but some of them don't do much for me. And I don't think they'll grow. Still, it's a good rock album.
