Jan 7 2013, 2h37 por BromadrosisHi, boys and girls.
Basically, this is a list of the releases from 2012 that I enjoyed the most out of the few hundred that I heard. I didn't go for a psychologically satisfying number, I'm just throwing them all out there and you can decide for yourselves which of these are the best 20 or 30 or whatever the fuck have you.
They are somewhat ranked, however do not read too much into this, because every last one of these is recommended listening for anyone into, well let's just call it extreme music for want of a better term. And but also, when comparing apples and oranges it really all depends on which particular fruit you happen to be in the mood for anyway.
And please note: This is NOT everything I liked. This is everything I liked the MOST.
Also, don't get too anal about genre denominations. The adjectives are there for the benefit of people who might be new to some of this shit :-P
Obviously, some genres are more represented than others. …

Jun 14 2011, 10h47 por G_Mac07Fri 10/Sat 11 Jun – Evil Invaders III
Four years on from Evil Invaders II, the third instalment finally took place this weekend. I wasn't fortunate enough to attended either of the first two, but I wasn't going to miss out on one of the 300 tickets to Evil Invaders III, which sold out well in advance.
The line up would originally consist of 16 bands (the gig flyer is accurate for original intended line up) spanning two evenings at Sydney’s Bald Faced Stag hotel, though a few changes occurred and only 15 bands made it in the end. Those to drop out from the original flyer were Witchrist, Taipan and Heresiarch.
The Friday night kicked off with Erebus Enthroned, who's somewhat simplistic style of Black Metal really impresses me, and has done the last few times I’ve seen them. Stage presence amongst these guys is superb even when playing to only a small crowd, carried largely by vocalist Nihilifer, who I find gives off a very destroy-your-life-for-Satan type vibe. …
Abr 21 2011, 2h34 por Coffinwood_MillAfter much pestering, I've relented. Hope you folks are happy. Here is my Best In Heavy Metal 2010 list.
Those of you who are actually interested, feel free to comment, criticize, and suggest any albums that you may have heard that I might have missed in any of the heavy metal or hard rock genres. Also, feel free to post your Best of 2010 lists. There are so many things out there these days, that I know I missed a great multitude of things.
I'm open to any listening suggestions!

Jan 31 2011, 2h51 por P_cellI was bored, procrastinating on university readings and essays so I decided to make this list. Looking back on it 2008 was such a sick year. This will be a little different just because it's in retrospect.
1. Invincible - ShapeShifters
Genre: Hip Hop/Rap
Truly inspiring. What an album!
This has easily climbed to the top of my favourite hip hop albums of all time, and is one of my favourite albums in general. Not only are the beats continuously excellent, fresh, and attention grabbing, so are the lyrics and overall theme: continuous change to meet challenges, not just expecting the outside to change but to learn from mistakes to change yourself. Creative, intelligent, relevant, sharp all the way through. The various topics covered range from the Israel-Palestinian conflict, "crabs-in-a-barrel" mentality fostered among rappers…
Jan 3 2011, 20h44 por P_cellAnother year and the good music keeps on flowing. Some great releases surfaced in 2010 right down to the last day making this list a little more difficult to compose compared to previous years.
This year's list will be noticeably dominated by black metal and death metal due to the exhausting and ridiculous high volume of excellence these two genres churned out all year. Every choice below the top 5 tend to shift places every now and then, not uncommon, but the top 5 have grasped those spots tightly.
Here we go.
1. Mitochondrion - Parasignosis
Genre: Death Metal
Fuck that cover is awesome. The Canadian death metal scene has established itself as one of the more notable ones out there, and west coast Canadian Mitochondrion's Parasignosis is just further confirmation of this. It is truly something else. …

Yeah it's something everyone on this site does I guess, so it's my turn. While I'm in Toronto I see as many bands/artists/shows as I possibly can without interfering with my studies.
Here's the list (which will be updated frequently I think) without any particular order:
Wolves in the Throne Room (x2)
A Storm of Light
Abigail Williams (x2)
High on Fire
Decrepit Birth (x2)
The Faceless (x2)
