“Shredneck Sound” To Rock Legion
TOFINO — Fans of metal, punk rock and even country are in for a treat this weekend
Gordie “Grady” Johnson, the anointed king of Cowboy metal, is coming to Tofino and plans to blow the roof off the Royal Canadian Legion with his big, “shredneck” sound.
“It’s a pretty explosive show,” Johnson said in an interview with the Westcoaster.ca this week. “It will be loud as hell. I hope they fully know what they signed on for.
“I hope they have a retractable roof.”
Those unfamiliar with metal and punk rock will remember Johnson for his days with the 1990s band, Big Sugar. His musical credits also include Gov’t Mule, Nashville Pussy and Taj Mahal.
Johnson’s most-recent musical incarnation, however, comes in the name of Grady.
Johnson said fans can expect a loud, 90- to 120-minute show.
The town’s and venue’s small size, don’t bother him either.
“That doesn’t mean much to me,” he said, noting, he, too, grew up in a small town.
