Ben Eshmade is twisting arms in the Arctic Circle Facebook group, which looks like fun. Think I'll join in...
Another artful evening of restrained melodic adventures from the Arctic Circle, bringing together three musicians, each with a subdued take on composition. Sylvain Chauveau, with releases on labels FatCat, Type and O Rosa, is making his London debut. His work coerces minimal sounds from piano and strings and combines them with discrete electronica. It is distinguished by employing silence itself as a musical element -- a John Cage-ian tapestry of incidental details. …
Jul 20 2008, 22h53 por potetenAfter discovering David Pajo's album Pajo (2005), I must've listened to the album a thousand times. Pajo is simply amazing at his best, up there with Elliott Smith, Cat Stevens, Big Star, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, you name it..
One of my favorite songs is the song Manson Twins. I found a video of it on youtube.com.
If you get hooked there's lots of material from mr. Pajo, he's a guy with a wide horizon, and has played with a great lot of awesome musicians.
Check his http://www.myspace.com/davidpajo and his http://www.davidpajo.com/
Fev 20 2008, 22h48 por tkdcoachSometime in 1977 or so before a midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the now-defunct Vogue Theater in St. Matthews, KY, USA, I saw my first live punk rock band, which turns out to have been locals, and Louisville's first punk group, No Fun (thanks to Tara Key (Antietam, Babylon Dance Band) for providing that info in the comments below). Time had erased that detail and I thought it might've been Babylon Dance Band or even The Endtables. So, as it turns out (also from Tara's comment), that was Tony Pinotti (later of Circle X) barking, as they say, literally, BOW WOW WOW.
At the movie with me were two friends from Fern Creek (an edge town, proud redneck bastion) where my family had moved in 1972. They were good guys but this wasn't country or even the outermost edge of glam rock that we all had enjoyed together and known well. One of my friends' brother was the lead singer of an "outlaw" country covers group, Cowboy George and The Beer-Drinking Rodeo Band. We loved Waylon and Willie, too. …
Jan 27 2008, 22h40 por tom_dissonancei figured since we were now a month away from 2007, now would be a suitable time to drop my reflections on a year's music on the people.

"Anti-bashing" pussies might find it more productive to go somewhere else.
• El-P – I'll Sleep When You're Dead: The most deliberate, forceful, sincere and fucking heartfelt record of the year, when you listen you begin to understand the five-year gap between this and Fantastic Damage. Is it better than the latter? It's a moot point. They're both different and both essential. ISWYD is a ferocious unrelenting broadside against "infected money slobbing pesticrats" where every beat's a banger and every emotion is raw enough to wring hot angry tears. From the adrenalising Mars Volta-starring opener "Tasmanian Pain Coaster", it doesn't let up. Every Weatherman (bar Breeze Brewin') turns up for a guest shot. By the time El and gorgeous Chan "Cat Power" Marshall (who incidentally…

Dez 19 2007, 1h12 por djprinceThe whole story is here.
Indie rock bands Xiu Xiu and Fucked Up today filed a class action lawsuit against R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (the parent company of Camel cigarettes) and Wenner Media (the publisher of Rolling Stone) alleging the unauthorized use of artists’ names, unauthorized use of artist names for commercial advantage (right of publicity), and unfair business practices, all in regards to the ‘Indie Rock Universe’ multipage advertising section that appeared in the 40th Anniversary issue of the magazine published on November 15. The class action, which was instigated by Xiu Xiu and Fucked Up but filed on behalf of 186 bands and artists featured in the pull out spread, accuses both the cigarette company and the magazine of engaging in “despicable conduct” that was “illegal under settled, unambiguous California statutory and common law.” The lawsuit demands Rolling Stone publish an admission that the artists’ names were used without consent in a spread equal in size to the original ad…

As ever bad preparation and severe illness meant that at best we were always going to be late, not packing until your estimated time of departure is also not recommended but such is life and such is the way that I am and probably always will be.
Being the good people we are it only seemed right to pick up some hippy hitchhikers along the way who had broken down, thus adding yet again to our time and meaning that by the time we finally arrived Dirty Three were well along in their first hour and a quarter set. …
