thanks. i just hoped that there's some not very legal way to get it, as soon as the band as a whole already passed away, you know what i mean. and maybe someone by any chance digs those stores, 'cause i'm not quite a geek when it comes to old recordings
Music will catch up with anybody, but Can still is doing tons of things that are a long ways away from being accepted in POP music. In experimental music outside of high art circles, even their wildest singing and noisemaking has been heard in free improv and noise groups by now, and their less polarizing stuff, like the rhythms, has been long sucked up by post-punk and indie rock bands, to varying effects. But hey, if Faust could make a decent album, why the fuck couldn't they?
Obviously it could never happen, due to Karoli being no longer with us, but supposing CAN released a brand new album in 2016, what would the band sound like today? Would they still be pioneers and innovators, or has music finally caught up with them?
What's with all the VU vs. Can dick measuring? I didn't realize people considered the two as being all that similar. Can made long, hypnotic jams developed through improvisation and tape editing; The Velvet Underground mostly made traditional (if unconventional) songs. The Velvet Underground also placed a much stronger emphasis on its lyrical content. I don't really think there's a huge amount of similarity between the two.
Another vote for Can being way better than VU. Yeah, the influence is there in the early Can stuff, but they very quickly surpassed them. by the time they got round to Monster Movir, they were doing The Velvet Underground better than The Velvet Underground were.
