I can't help but feel amused at the "ONLY TR00 BRVTAL METAL" poseurs who get upset because Baroness took on a more rock-oriented sound. Would you have preferred they continue making the same record over and over? Because that's what it sounds like when people complain about it. Don't like it? Don't listen to it. They're doing fine without you.
"Baroness are so god damn amazing at writing the most meaningless albums - congratulations." - that's certainly true, but their songwriting, amazing production and use of sounds that are not part of the typical range of rock music to create atmosphere make them outstanding imho.
Hola, no puedo asistir al concierto del sábado en Madrid y tengo una entrada disponible. Si alguien está interesado en ella podemos hablar por privado. Gracias. / Hi, i have a spare ticket for next Saturday show in Madrid, if anyone needs one message me. Thanks.
Purple was definitely a grower for me, but now that I've had plenty of time with it, I'd go as far to say Purple may be my favorite Baroness release. Okay, maybe second only to Blue. The heavy riffing that people miss may not be there, but the band has matured so much and their song-writing skills are top notch. Purple is very triumphant and memorable, and given the context of the album (post-bus crash that could have been the end of Baroness and even their lives and their recovery from that) adds a whole other layer to an already multi-faceted album. I just cant seem to get this album out of my head, and I keep going back for more.
Really not impressed by Purple.
I wanted to like it. Started out liking it. . . was met with something that was very much not Baroness' sound or usual lyrical content. At points it seemed like something by a band that would be more likely to play at Warped Tour.
I personally can't get enough of it. It's not that I didn't like Yellow & Green but I completely stopped listening to Baroness at that point (2012). I just naturally moved on to other artists. Purple though reignited my love for them.
The Art Nouveau covers are pretty cooll. The music is dramatic, conventional, a little boring. You have to be into their thing to enjoy it, not catchy tunes, just self-indulgent rock. The worst part is the voice, sounds like radio music. The best part is the guitar playing.
