Jan 7 2013, 2h37 por BromadrosisHi, boys and girls.
Basically, this is a list of the releases from 2012 that I enjoyed the most out of the few hundred that I heard. I didn't go for a psychologically satisfying number, I'm just throwing them all out there and you can decide for yourselves which of these are the best 20 or 30 or whatever the fuck have you.
They are somewhat ranked, however do not read too much into this, because every last one of these is recommended listening for anyone into, well let's just call it extreme music for want of a better term. And but also, when comparing apples and oranges it really all depends on which particular fruit you happen to be in the mood for anyway.
And please note: This is NOT everything I liked. This is everything I liked the MOST.
Also, don't get too anal about genre denominations. The adjectives are there for the benefit of people who might be new to some of this shit :-P
Obviously, some genres are more represented than others. …

I don't know where you guys like to hang out online, but I've come across quite a few meatheads complaining this year was terrible for music. Sorry if Experimental US Black Metal Act #4123 failed to release anything, or if Metal Supergroup Reunion #524 didn't live up to your expectations, but 2012 saw some fucking excellent releases, quite a few of them being from first-timers! Tune in, drink up and read on!
10. Revenge - Scum.Collapse.Eradication
No way you can just say "Oh, Revenge have released a new album, guess they're going through the motions" about this one. What we have here is one of the most violent, pummeling albums of 2012 - they didn't change their direction or anything, they've merely fine-tuned it. Everything has improved, from the production, to the bass, to the out-of-control leads, this album shows these sickos at the top of their game. Also, they put on quite a devastating live set!
9. Swans - The Seer
Mai 2 2012, 18h57 por SarkiSlowdowned thrash, speed-up doom
-Call it what you like, but I've been looking for this kinda stuff for few years now and so far i've come across only a handful of similar and so-called "advanced" bands that hail this Hellhammer-tune.
You know, that groovy but slow & heavy stuff, like a slowdowned punk with a possible UGH! - shouted every now and than.
Bands like Warhammer and Apokalyptic raids that have been known to make the typical hellhammer-like music for tribute to these legends and new bands like Coffins and Lair of the minotaur (mostly the first album) with a sludgy aproach.
This journal is about gathering these slow-tuned heavy & groovy bands (and songs).
Bands i've found so far:
Lair of the Minotaur
Rhino / Horn of the Rhino
This is the most modern aproach to hellhammer i've heard so far.
Heavy and distorded death/doom with mostly low growls and lengthy songs.

2011 was another great year for music, there was so much great shit released by hard working groups and labels that again it was a tough year to make a list. I always feel as though I should wait like a month or two after the new year to make a list like this since I do usually miss an amazing record and regret not putting it on the list. Going from #20 to #1 this time.
Enjoy and GFYS.
#20. SubRosa - No Help For The Mighty Ones
Label: Profound Lore Records
Beneath the Crown
I still can’t get over how those violins sound like trumpets, and its just so cool. What a great sludge/doom release that I was very surprised by. Majority females in this band with a semi-Neurosis/A Storm of Light aesthetic and sound floating about it, melancholic with a psychedelic flavor sprinkled throughout. …

Yeah it's something everyone on this site does I guess, so it's my turn. While I'm in Toronto I see as many bands/artists/shows as I possibly can without interfering with my studies.
Here's the list (which will be updated frequently I think) without any particular order:
Wolves in the Throne Room (x2)
A Storm of Light
Abigail Williams (x2)
High on Fire
Decrepit Birth (x2)
The Faceless (x2)
