How can I search for 2 genre tags at once?

  • How can I search for 2 genre tags at once?

    I would like to find music that has the highest number of tags for BOTH "female fronted metal" and "progressive metal" in one search. But there is only the option to search artists with the most counts of each tag, one at a time.

    So for example, if I search "progressive metal" the top 46(!) artists are all male-fronted bands. There are only 3 out of the top 100 that are also female fronted, and I already know about them. If I search "female fronted metal", there is absolutely no way of knowing if they are also tagged "progressive metal" and if so, how many times, which would indicated how "progressive" they are considered to be. My only option is to sift through every single band's profile and check all their tags.

    What I *have* been doing is looking through similar artists of the three female fronted bands listed under the top 100 bands tagged "progressive metal." (Stream of Passion, The Gathering, Ambeon) but most of the similar artists have more tags for "goth metal" or "power metal," or "symphonic metal" than anything else, because the 3 I searched also share those genre tags.

    OK, I hope I explained that clearly enough, and why this would be a useful extension of the tags search tool. I think the problem could be fixed if I could search for artists that share two genre tags at once. Can we do this?

    like this http://www.last.fm/search?q=%22female+fronted+metal%22+%2B+%22progressive+metal%22&type=tag

    To get to advanced search, place your cursor in the music search field and hit enter.

    Agree

    I would also love to be able to find tracks or albums using multiple tags. For example, I would like to find all albums that are tagged with "new age", "piano" and "violin". Or tracks that have both "cover" and "jazz" to find a jazz versions of cover songs.

    oh, yes... hjbardenhagen's suggestion below is much simpler.)

    I suppose you know that the http://beta.combofm.de/ page generates a code to actually play the music (but not list it) :
    (scrobbler) lastfm://rql/dGFnOiJmZW1hbGUgZnJvbnRlZCBtZXRhbCIgYW5kIHRhZzoicHJvZ3Jlc3NpdmUgbWV0YWwiIG9wdDpyZXBldGl0aW9ufDAuNQ==
    or
    http://last.fm/listen/rql/dGFnOiJmZW1hbGUgZnJvbnRlZCBtZXRhbCIgYW5kIHRhZzoicHJvZ3Jlc3NpdmUgbWV0YWwiIG9wdDpyZXBldGl0aW9ufDAuNQ==
    I don't know if that can be used to see a playlist.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    btw maryha10 "new age" and "piano" and "violin" gets : lastfm://rql/dGFnOiJuZXcgYWdlIiBhbmQgdGFnOiJwaWFubyIgYW5kIHRhZzoidmlvbGluIiBvcHQ6cmVwZXRpdGlvbnwwLjU=
    or http://last.fm/listen/rql/dGFnOiJuZXcgYWdlIiBhbmQgdGFnOiJwaWFubyIgYW5kIHRhZzoidmlvbGluIiBvcHQ6cmVwZXRpdGlvbnwwLjU=
    "cover" and "jazz" :
    lastfm://rql/dGFnOiJjb3ZlciIgYW5kIHRhZzoiamF6eiIgb3B0OnJlcGV0aXRpb258MC41
    or
    http://last.fm/listen/rql/dGFnOiJjb3ZlciIgYW5kIHRhZzoiamF6eiIgb3B0OnJlcGV0aXRpb258MC41
    As it looks through the tags on artists and/or albums and/or tracks you might get some odd results because it relies on users having tagged things properly.
    You can also create and listen to a Multi-Tag Radio with up to three tags at the bottom of the Last.fm radio page. But that only gives you a list afterwards in your recent tracks. At the moment the site search is not able to combine several search terms the same way as usual search engines can, so using Google with the line described above by Alainn is the best idea if you want a list of artists. Finding albums or tracks tagged with several terms with that line does not work either.
    @ashflower: you could also try "progressive metal" and "female vocalists" as a multi tag radio combination and check the list of your recent tracks afterwards.
