Biography

Widefield is a one man’s project started in 2007 by musician and visual artist Michel Wijdeveld. Widefield’ s goal is ‘to become Widefield as much as possible’. Or, Widefield tries to make and produce his music independently in complete agreement with his anarchistic nature.
Michel Wijdeveld joined frisian bands The North ( new wave ) and Sex Ettek ( electronic wave ) at the beginning of the years ninety. In 1991 The North released “Monday Night and Tuesday Morning’on Heechterp records distributed by Semaphore. In 1995 Klaas Schippers and Empee Holwerda ( Kanipchen-fit ) invited Michel Wijdeveld, who finished Art school and moved to Amsterdam, to join New wave/ Post-rock band Solbakken. Solbakken was formed after the demise of the experimental Frysian band LUL. They released ‘Limited Brazen Sound’ (1997 ) and ‘Pinanti’ (1999 ) on the Hooverflag label a division of the Konkurrent label Amsterdam. In 1999 Wijdeveld was replaced by Jelle Buma, formerly of legendary Frysian New-wave act Deinum.
Michel Wijdeveld continued his artist’s carreer, had several exhibitions/ artprojects and produced his first homerecorded songs just for its own pleasure and learn. In the year 2007 he decided to stop his activities as an expressive artist, build a small recordingstudio and started the ‘Widefield’ project. Making songs, publishing them on the internet, let the music finding it’s own way towards the listeners, and free downloads.
