The Machine In The Garden is a gothic/darkwave duo formed in the early 1990s, featuring Summer Bowman and Roger Fracé. They are based in Austin, Texas. They have so far released 1 EP (1994: Veils and Shadows) and 6 albums (1997: Underworld; 1999: One Winter’s Night…; 2000: Out of the Mists; 2002: Asphodel; 2005: Shadow Puppets; 2007: XV). The band features Summer’s ethereal vocals over dark electronic and guitar music. The band’s name refers to the subtle tension between the organic and electronic elements present in their music. They are one of the first and most influential and original bands.

Summer also sings and performs in the medieval/neoclassical duo Mirabilis.

"Cheap heavely voice is This Mortal Coil, for instance. " This one wins my "Dumbest phrase of the week" price.

You defend ethereal voices yet you call This Mortal Coil cheap? You're both losers.

On hearing Trent Reznor's "How to Destroy Angels" song "A Drowning" I'm left wondering if he's heard tMitG! ;-)

Yes that comment about TMC was idiotic. There's nothing "cheap about them (or TMitG for that matter)

I think they are a very interesting band. The singer's voice is the major reason of my interests in their works. I consider them exceptional and characteristic in genere, and their songs grow on me with each time I listen to it.

No once a "cheap ethereal voice", imho. Even no once "ehereal". Cheap heavely voice is This Mortal Coil, for instance. Here is a typically gothic female vocal that is a good representation of US dark scene, like Faith and The Muse, Sunshine Blind, Ego Likeness. I'm very impressed.

I've known about this band for years, but for whatever reason I never checked them out in the past. Good to see they have some full songs available here. Really good stuff.

~Wonderful~ band, been a fan for years. Definitely not cheap either. I recommend Control and Corpus Christi (Love Will Die) for good songs :3
