Solomon's Overture (5:11)
From AlphaOmegaSuite
Composed in 2007.
Due to the restricted venues of communication, very few figures from the ancient world were able to transcend their culture and become accurately known throughout the world. It was even more rare when a monarch obtained adoration and respect in areas outside of his own kingdom and home turf. Solomon, the successor to king David’s throne and third king of united Israel was just such a figure. Through remarkable achievements and the dynamics of a powerful reign, Solomon’s influence traveled far beyond the borders of his small kingdom. He became the epitome of what an earthly leader could be and could obtain with the right conditions.
At the beginning of his reign, when presented with a choice by the Lord as to any request he might wish for, Solomon chose to possess a wise mind which would enable him to discern between good and evil. The purpose of this request was so he could be a better ruler and govern his subjects as a great and fair king. God was pleased by this request and since Solomon had not included any desire for personal pride, prestige or power, God not only granted it but also gave Solomon areas of abundant wealth as well. Along with God’s promise was a prophecy which easily summarized what Solomon’s reign would be known for, “none like you has been before you and none like you shall arise after you… no other king shall compare with you, all your days.” Solomon’s humble request had guaranteed him earthly greatness as well as legendary status for ever after.
