Shahriar Bourbour was born and grew up for the most part in Tehran, Iran. In his family he was surrounded by music-lovers. His older brothers played everything from the flute, to the violin, and the classical guitar. He started taking piano lessons at an early age. His curriculum included Bach, Czerny, and Burgmuller, as well as Iranian, Armenian, and Russian folk songs.

Shahriar’s first encounters with electronic music were hits by Richie M, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, and Tangerine Dream.

He continues to aspire to the electronic music pioneers. His goal is to bring melodies from different cultures together, as opposed to creating arrangements of merely cool sound effects. His more recent influences include Bond, and Afro-Celt Sound Systems.

His first single “Persian Rhapsody” is an attempt to reconcile a melancholic and mystical Persian theme, to the fast-paced western beat and bass. Although it may sound too westernized to the traditionally trained Persian ear, westerners might appreciate the melodic, almost story-telling flow of the song. Persian Rhapsody CD is available on amazon.com, and at the Electric Fetus in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Bringing Eastern, Western, traditional, and modern electronic music all together is a challenging endeavor, but Shahriar Bourbour believes to be on the right track.
