Biography

sclwn is a Russian and trio comprised of Krasnoyarsk’s underground rapper and poet sclwn (one of the founders of hool-a-hop, an independent Russian record label) and two young talented musicians Damscray (producing) and Ilz (piano) from Orenburg. The style they have created is a unique psychedelic fusion of the depressive and moody music intertwining with a classical-like masterly piano parts and an unceasing flow of the dark and abstract Russian lyrics. Their sound is often linked with a suicidal, post-apocalyptic cyberpunk atmosphere.

The story starts in October of 2007 in Krasnoyarsk with the collaboration between the two hool-a-hop record label founders – Dmitry “sclwn” Arctor (Dzaibatsu point) and Ivan “KBC” Lutchkin (Project Dharma, KBC pres Mariachi), who had decided to create a dark and gloomy \ project. The resulting EP, Diagnoz Budki, was released at the hool-a-hop in January, 2008. Next up came Prerivanie_Na_Schet_Nol, the album with the same ideology and music, released in February, 2008 at the Moscow internet label, A-HU-LI Records. In November of 2008 sclwn released Everything Is Ok, which deviated considerably from the previous LP, mainly by the brand new sound accomplished by Sergei “Ilz” Kuznetsov and Albert “Damscray” Khasanov, the musicians from Orenburg with who Dmitry met through the social networks. After that successful experience they have decided to work on together as an band.

As the musicians mentioned, their unique style is inspired much by the music of Dalek, Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, Joy Division, Sixtoo, Yanka, Portishead, Sole, Radiohead, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Alexander Scriabin, Tom Waits and the literature of William Gibson, Philip K. Dick and Joseph Brodsky.
