18 Apr 2010, 07:27 by mecbirdhouseListing stuff I like makes me smile, so that's what this is! Those preceded by a * are ones that broke my mind in half, and a ~ is indicative that it's my favorite release of the band/artist in question . It starts in 1966 'cause short of maybe some Tom Lehrer and Sam Cooke there isn't much before Revolver that gets many plays from me. Will be updated and altered at whim.
Revolver - The Beatles
Absolutely Free - Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
Strange Days - The Doors
~* We're Only in It for the Money - Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention

Hot Rats - Frank Zappa
Abbey Road - The Beatles
~ Trout Mask Replica - Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band

10 Nov 2008, 22:30 by DeuceMckenzieMy second wave of Elephant 6 exploration continued this week. In fact, if not for my yourmusic.com, my purchases would have been exclusive to the collective.
Album: Can't Wait Another Day
Artist: The Ladybug Transistor
Acquired Via: City Lights (CD)
Some time ago, a poster at rateyourmusic.com recommended The Albemarle Sound to me based on my love of the E6 extended family band, The Essex Green. Both groups definitely belong to more mellow, melodic branch of the collective, but that is really where the similarities end. The Ladybug Transistor actually remind me more of The Magnetic Fields than anyone else. The same strange upbeat/depressive feeling that instantly makes me think of antidepressant medications for some reason. TLT's latest effort is nowhere near the quality of the first record I bought by them, but it has some great tracks. I especially like Here Comes The Rain, a great little pop gem. I must say that the production on this album is surprisingly slick for an E6 related act…

19 Oct 2007, 21:59 by riegulateI'm listening to way too much of Montreal. There was a time I wouldn't listen to anything else beside Cherry Peel or Aldhils Arboretum but now I'm getting it the newer stuff. Especially The Sunlandic Twins. It's a little more party- and dance-ish and perhaps less personal but either way it's catchy as hell.
Why the fuck isn't there a client to update this shitty journal
24 Sep 2007, 03:16 by portraitofsoundI'm really bad at these all time favorite albums list because the qualifying terms for such a decision are constantly changing... here's one way I can think of to do it: these are albums that I've listened to all the way through more times than most other albums and still sound great when I hear them. That means that some of these are records that I played all the time when I was significantly younger sooo... here goes:
(no particular order)
((warning: I have a feeling this is gonna ramble...))
Kid A This record seriously blew my mind when I first heard it.. I hadn't listened to any leaks, was obsessed with OK COMPUTER since it came out and bought it on the way home from a play rehearsal. Once I put those headphones on, my ears would never be the same... I don't really enjoy OK COMPUTER all that much anymore except for a Nostalgia factor, but this record still sounds great to me.
Automatic for the PeopleFor me, the appeal of this album started out with the appearance of Try Not…
