The vision of frontman, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Davis, oddSTAR creates a dramatic musical tapestry combining pulsating electronica, trip-hop, and dance grooves with the scorching dynamics and drama of live rock improvisation. The pounding, sexy rhythms and themes of Davis’s songs dance on the line between chaotic darkness and brilliant, emotional breakthroughs—creating a sound he calls “electrogothicspacerock.”

Having begun as a solo project around the turn of the century, oddSTAR now features three members: Davis (programming, synthesizers, guitar, vocals); Melissa Crowder (bass guitar, synthesizers, vocals); and Jason Ross Martin (guitars, vocals). This lineup commands a stage and adds soaring layers of sound to Davis’s intricate compositions.

oddSTAR has been recognized as an exciting new presence in the blossoming Asheville music scene and beyond. Winners of the Star 104.3 Battle of the Bands in February 2008—as selected by online fan votes after a featured performance at The Orange Peel—oddSTAR was also chosen to perform at the Pack Square stage just before the city’s Fourth of July fireworks spectacular. Again demonstrating their expanding fanbase, oddSTAR also won a spot in the Musician’s Workshop Showcase for Riverlink’s Rockin’ RiverFest sponsored by rock station 105.9 The Mountain. In July 2008 their song “Recurring Dream” has charted in the top 10% of submissions in the Electronic/Dance Category on OurStage.com, an indie music website with results determined by fan voting.
