Kathryn Dawn Lang, OC (born November 2, 1961), better known under her stage name, k.d. lang, is a Grammy Award-winning Canadian singer and songwriter. She is regarded as one of Canada’s foremost female vocalists, as well as a champion of legal equality for LGBT people.
Her singing talent has lent itself to a wide range of genres, although earlier works, such as ‘Angel With a Lariat’ and ‘Absolute Torch and Twang’ (the last of which won her a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance) were predominantly country, with hints of jazz and salsa. Later works, including Ingénue and All You Can Eat, were more pop-ish in execution. No matter the genre, all left her talent undeniable. She has since garnered four grammys and many other awards, and was even made an officer of the Order of Canada in 1996, Canada’s highest civilian honour.

In the shout below, I should of course have been referring to "k.d." - forgot that capitals are out of place with her. Having done a new burst of listening to what's available, I reckon she's about as good as a vocalist gets. I haven't heard enough to tell what she's like on light-hearted material, or whether she can swing like the clappers in front of a big band. What I do hear is someone with excellent pitch and timing, who interprets songs exceptionally well. I think I'll take a break and try some other sites to listen to much more.

I think k.d.or her representatives don't help her by having so few tracks available for full liestening. She's a major talent, but she's badly represented on this site. I've tried calling up tracks from her by going on to the radios of related artists, but I've been getting very few hits. We know the arguments about the danger of lost sales but last.fm intelligently rations how much free listening we can get out of an individual artists. I still spend some money on music, and it's going to go on artists who catch my attention on this site. If artists don't really participate, they won't get my money.
