Joni Sheila is a half-Philippino, half-Belgian singer-songwriter and street musician. She was born the 17th of November 1989 in Louvain and grew up in Ghent. She was named after Joni Mitchell.
She taught herself to play the guitar at the age of 17. She wrote her first songs and signed up for several contests. In the semi-finals of Humo’s Rock Rally 2010 Joni played her version of “Every Day Is Exactly The Same” by Nine Inch Nails.
After competing in Belgium’s biggest music contest she decided to look for other musicians and spice up her music. She found a drummer (Jelle), a bass player (Xavier) and a guitarist (Bert). Joni Sheila already got to support Ed Kowalczyk, Lissie and Sioen. The solo project steadily evolved into a live band.
Joni Sheila can still be found busking in the streets.
