Joe Boyd Vigil, producer of widely varying styles of electronic music, gained an international profile in electronic music circles through his scoring and sound designing of Cartoon Network’s “Toonami” anime block. In 2001, Rhino Records released a compilation of JBV’s soundtracks entitled “Toonami: Deep Space Bass”.

JBV’s 2006 release, “Deeper Space”, is already being touted as a more refined expression of his abstract and often cinematic sensibilities. “Deeper Space” is currently available worldwide on iTunes.

Toonami....was an influence to everything i do, hear, speak, and see in my life. [2] the music videos that used to play on the Midnight Block back in the day (Daft Punk, Gorillaz, etc) were a huge formative influence on my music taste.

I'm gonna feel like a tool for this, but where can I buy or download Deeper Space and The Inevitable Course of Events? I still haven't managed to get my hands on a copy of either, somhow. :/

Toonami....was an influence to everything i do, hear, speak, and see in my life. It was the greatest thing i could have asked for in my childhood to grow up on. It was the best program i have ever watched.

It makes me sad that there is no news about JBV. I wonder what he's been up to and why he tends to stay so secretive; he seems to have some pretty dedicated fans.

These was that Myspace profile that Joe had featured on his own Myspace for a whie, but it's since been deleted... I wonder if it was a project he was involved in, or what happened to the music there?

I hope GMO is going to be a whole new full-blown album. I love what I've heard on Joe's MySpace. Slightly more upbeat that Deeper Space, I feel. http://myspace.com/joeboydvigil

Deeper Space is once more available on the iTunes store, for those that didn't jump at the chance last time. It should remain available for a while this time.

Sorry, MAG1CO, you'd have to get it custom-pressed. I got to say, though: the nostalgia tied to Deep Space Bass is so strong that vinyl seems to be a logical step.

Anybody know if Joe Boyd Vigil made the track that's spinning in the original DBZ intro on Cartoon Network (under Moltar)? Here's the link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJDFq83En78 Super kudos to anyone who can name that track and its author.
