hellenkeller was a music group formed in 1994 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Tired of early 90’s alternative guitar music and inspired by experimental, electronic, and sample-based music of the day, hk was at first a studio-based project with a revolving door of guest musicians, but a 5 member line up soon solidified. Early demos generated lots of interest, and the band soon became known for the intensity and spectacle of its live shows. HK were early and enthusiastic adopters of music computer technology and samplers but also played various instruments. The band’s style is hard to define; elements of rock, blues, jazz, electronic, ambient, and random noise are all there… suffice to say they pillaged shamelessly from a wide range of music genres.

HK’s debut cd Demonstration was released in 1997 to critical acclaim. Recording for their follow-up, titled Last Days of Stereo, was mostly finished by 2001 and was never officially released but is now available for download on hellenkeller’s website and on
