There is more than one artist with this name, so please leave the pic with both bands.
Il y a deux groupes du meme nom, alors, svp, laissez la photo avec les deux groupes, merci!

1. A British indie/twee pop group formed in 1989 and disbanded in 1996.
2. A French heavy metal band formed in 1994.

1. Heavenly was a 1990s band, originally forming in Oxford, England in 1989. Amelia Fletcher (vocals), Mathew Fletcher (drums; Amelia’s brother), Peter Momtchiloff (guitar) and Robert Pursey (bass) had all been members of Talulah Gosh, a key member of the scene which preceded the twee movement, formed in 1986.

Heavenly debuted with the 7” single I Fell in Love Last Night, followed by another 7”, Our Love Is Heavenly, both released in 1990 on Sarah Records. Heavenly Vs. Satan, the group’s debut album, came out in 1991. At this stage in their career, Heavenly’s songs were still mainly concerned with an innocent view of love, whether or not requited, and the instrumentation remained very much the same jangly guitar style used by Talulah Gosh.

Before releasing the critically acclaimed Le Jardin de Heavenly, Cathy Rogers (keyboard, back-up vocals) joined the band. Her harmony vocals and keyboards became an integral part of the group’s sound. Another strikingly different element of the group’s second album was the inclusion of the track, PlayC Is the Heavenly Option, featuring the guest vocals of K Records founder Calvin Johnson, who released Heavenly’s records in the USA. The song even featured Amelia Fletcher rapping, after a fashion. Calvin Johnson would go on to provide additional guest vocals on each of the Heavenly albums following Le Jardin de Heavenly.

okay i just looked up Angra's cover of Wuthering Heights because i'm a big Kate fan and i have to say it was horrible. I liked Novembre's cover of Cloudbusting though

Oh, not saying it's a bad thing. I love Angra, ESPECIALLY the Wuthering Heights cover. It's still pretty hilarious though. But, in hindsight Heavenly are going for more of a Freddy Mercury subtle effemnity :P

Hey credit where it's due. Angra's singer did a fantastic falsetto for their cover of Wuthering Heights. Now that is some top class female fakery! :D

Don't know how I missed these guys for so long, Carpe Diem is pretty damn awesome. Mind you, I thought Angra had effeminate vocals but these guys take the cake :P

@lostark: ahhh, kk. i assumed the 16yr old girl comments came from the fact that it was "pop music." people that listen to twee don't usually fall in that demographic, though. :/ and most 16yr old girls i know don't want to listen to songs about kittens or holding hands, they want to hear shitty radio pop that seems more "adult" or whatever. dunno.

@bit188: I don't having anything against 16 year old girls, I actually quite enjoy them. I just don't see how twee Heavenly could appeal to any other demographic. But then again, I don't see how grindcore could appeal to any demographic whatsoever. HUMANS ARE FUCKING WERID

i actually have kind of a miscellaneous thought i wanted to share: you guys calling the twee listeners "16yr old girls" or whatever.. tweepoppers often just drop the "twee" qualifier and call it "pop." it's very different from the kind of pop most people think of and has ties to lo-fi, shoegaze, britpop and related genres-- it's indie music, not radio pop. just to clarify

As for the twee/power hybrid we're forever discussing. I love power metal duets, like Firewind's Breaking the Silence, Iced Earth's Phantom Opera Ghost, Kiuas' After the Storm or Heavenly's When the Rain Begins to Fall. Wouldn't it be something for Heavenly to bring Amelia on board and do a power metal cover of one of the twee band's tracks? :D Also, to stir yet more discussion... I've been trying to pay as much attention to to the drums while listening to the new album (which is difficult considering the distractions of it sounding like Queen in some places, Nightwish in others and pure Heavenly in others) and I must say, Piwee isn't all that bad. He's no DeNeve, but he's not bad. I'll be interested to see if he can wow me next album round though. He's got some pretty big shoes to fill.

LostArk. Learned how to speak English? God no! >_< One of the things I love about European Power Metal is the dodgy accents. :D That's part of the fun! Plus it gives them some crazy vocal styles (listen to Time's Gate by Arwen, no native English speaker could create something like that). Seriously, the accents are part of the appeal for me. I also love foreign language power metal (which is even more niche). I'm just waiting for the day Heavenly do a song in French. ^^ As for Fairyland... they're not the same since Elisa Martin left. I was a big fan of her vocal contribution to the first album. "Opppeeeen the gaaaates for meee!" :D Dark Moor managed to retain their appeal without her but Fairyland with a male vocalist just isn't as good. (continues due to space limitations)
