Ontario, Canada (1987 – present)

escalation 746 sometimes trades under other names (escalation 726, escalation 501, etc.) but always produces innovative electronic music that runs the gamut from drone and ambient to post-digital noise and clicks’n’cuts. While their live appearances are rare, self-released records appear with some regularity. Usually the work of one person, Robin Parmar, escalation 746 also incorporates collaborations with singers and other artists. For fun they have remixed Byrne & Eno, Wire and Peter Gabriel.

escalation 746 was formed in Ontario, Canada, perhaps in 1987. The entity evolved out of work in radiophonics, available on the CD Device for the Transmission of Electrical Energy Through Air: Soundworks 1987-1999. (Now out of print?)

Early influences include OMD, John Foxx and The Human League though escalation 746 have rarely used vocals or pop formulas as such.

Sounds like? Pan Sonic, Locust, Autechre, Oval.

The official website is escalation746.com.
