Musical collaborators from an early age, Martin and Adams had previously written and performed in and around northeast Ohio. drunkdude69 represents the evolution of their musical collaboration over two decades, across multiple cities and through numerous other bands.
DD69’s first release “Funk Out With Your Junk Out” has been described as “a rip through a well-stocked jukebox, with smooth funk that would have been at home on a turntable three decades ago mixing with a contemporary guitar-heavy party vibe that could have been recorded two weeks ago.” The music has drawn comparisons to classic artists like Stevie Wonder and Frank Zappa, as well as contemporary rockers like Sublime and 311.
The second release “Wigs & Liquor” contains ten songs that are a more cohesive example of the band’s style. From the upbeat opening riff of “Keep It Up” through the classically funky “Now It’s All Over”, DD69 fills the album with heavy riffs and stylistic twists and turns. Witness their interpretation of Billy Joel’s “Somewhere Along the Line” and you’ll get an idea of the drunkdude69 style in action.
The drunkdude vibe is catching on - the song “It’s Alive!” is the basis for the theme for the drive-time radio show “Afternoon R&R” on Cleveland’s ESPN radio station WKNR. It’s become popular enough that folks call in to request they play it more often than just at the top of the show every weekday.
