Darling Imperial is a Detroit-based band and currently consists of vocalist Sarah Sadovsky, guitarist George Jacobsen, bassist and guitarist Carl Yute, guitarist Chris Vieau, and drummer Adam Hayes.
In April 2009, the band released its six-song EP I Know Everyone You Know. The EP was produced and recorded by Jonathan Weier of The Dead Bodies. According to music writer Jeff Milo of Deep Cutz Music:
“At its core, [I Know Everyone You Know] has the soul, throaty growl and stage-side fist clenched feeling of those garage days, but reaching back to the jangly-fied melody-heavy rock of 60’s brit-pop. Take all this tambourine-tapped, hand-clapped, head-bopped goodness and give it the wings of classic 80’s new-wave college rock and add in rocket power of those burning grimace, pedal-pushed guitar solos and you get quite a swirled serum decanted into the cracks of this 6-song EP…it’s a wide arc of ideas, styles and talents coalescing.”
The band has also been noted for its live shows.
Darling Imperial originally formed as a septet in the summer of 2007 and included members from many well-known Detroit-based bands: anadonia, Capitol Cities, The Sisters Lucas, and Troy Gregory & the Stepsisters. The band featured brothers Jamiel Dado and Chris Dado, George Jacobsen, Mark Tabor, Sarah Sadovsky (daughter of noted banjo and fingerstyle guitar player Vincent Sadovsky, Teri Lynn Walker and Josh Jarrett. Their highly melodic pieces combined warm group vocals, swirling layers of guitar, musical bells, keys, and raucous percussion.
