Lyrical Sonata for piano (3:31)

Cover of Piano Music To Die For...

From Piano Music To Die For...

The Lyrical Sonata is a one-movement sonata, in a style roughly between Haydn and Beethoven (in his Bonn period, i.e. before he settled in Vienna in 1792). It is full of relentless energy and drive - and therefore not easy to play! The development plays ‘perpetuum mobile’ games with the first subject while the second subject is virtually ignored as development material. Not very Haydnesque but very Beethovenian.

Thanks once again to everyone who has landed on this page and listened to the 'Lyrical Sonata' - some of you having listened to it more than once! I feel deeply honoured. It is nice to know that I have composed something that seems to be giving pleasure to more than a few people.

Thanks everyone who has listened to some of my piano music. The Lyrical Sonata continues to be the favourite. Don't forget, you can listen to it played on a Steinway grand piano which has more depth and resonance. Track 6 on 'Piano Music to Die For…'
