This EP was realized through the collective efforts of women whose lives and dreams intersect in a myriad of ways– women who share the same workspace or belong to the same union; women who march side by side in demonstrations, toast glasses at night, or dance together. We embarked on this journey following the call of bANDiSTA’s women performers to sing together on March 8. For days on end, we worked together, singing, recording and writing until each word and note satisfied all. Composing the lyrics, we often completed each other’s sentences; when at odds, we formed entirely new ones.
The composition of these songs coincides with the 30th year of the feminist movement in Turkey. These thirty years comprise the history– our history– that has created the language of collective struggle and made possible the articulation of our discourse here. We hope that our songs will make a modest contribution to the movement that continues to inspire and empower us in all realms of life.
Alone and together, wherever we are!
Long live women’s solidarity!
