Drawing on influences from prog, electronic & punk music, members Alejandro Gonzalez (drums), Diego Mora (guitar) & Tim Chang (guitar) met whilst studying audio engineering in Sydney four years ago; a musical distinction evident in their approach to music making.
Backed by local independant label Soviet Records, the band were first approached to record a track for the label’s first compilation, released late 2006. With Soviet contributing to some of Sydney’s finest acts and releases, the band welcomed the opportunity and recorded a live track for the release. After working together for the Soviet compilation, both parties seemed to be more than happy to continue a working relationship.
After much delay due to hiccups in the production process, the band have at last released their debut album. ‘WHEN PHILISTINES JOUST’ blends heavy rhythmic elements and melodies, hard riffs and a melancholy undertone to create a complex, euphonic soundscape.
Pre-production for the second album is already under way whilst Annexed are still busy promoting the debut album. Along with an upcoming Soviet Records tour of Australia’s east coast and plenty of live Sydney shows in 2009, its looking to be a bright year for this musical collective.
