Alphastates are an Irish indie/electronica act with a sound based around Dowling’s distinctive vocals and a strong melodic backing. They will be releasing a new single Champagne Glass, on the 25th March, followed by their second album, Human Nature, on the 24th April.

Catherine Dowling and Gerry Horan first played together in 2001, Alphastates first release was a single Sometimes which they actually penned as part of their previous band Babelfish. Karl Odlum briefly joined the team as producer and band member and Stevie Kavanagh joined a short time later around the the release of their second ep, Conversations with Robots. The last addition to the lineup was Graham Gilligan in late 2007, who replaced Mike O’Dowd, the bands previous drummer.

In 2004 Alphastates released their debut album, Made from Sand which was very well received critically as were their robust live performances. The band have performed at a number of large festivals including Electric Picnic and Oxegen and have shared the stage with Sinead O’ Connor, Cat Power, The Beta Band, Throwing Muses and Lali Puna.
