Miami Beach, FL (2003 – present)

During recent years, songwriters have reduced the piano to a gentle instrument against a folksy palette of wispy vocals. Aaron Lawry is a singing pianist quite different than mellow folk, soul or rock pianists you hear on the radio nowadays. He recaptures what piano pop once was: bold, tantalizing and virtuosic.

Aaron gained fluency in Classical voice, viola, piano, dance, and music composition during his childhood. In 2003, his studio instructor at the San Francisco Conservatory was the first person to encourage songwriting. They analyzed the art songs of Kurt Wiel, Erik Satie, and Samuel Barber during his music lessons. He learned the art of Romantic musical alchemy, which is known for producing melancholic fantasies.

Aaron later began collaborating with Nestor Santurio at Sound Forever Music in Miami Beach, FL (Warner/Chappell, Sony Argentina). After several pitchers of sangria, they transformed his music into electro-pop. This has drawn his perception of the piano into a new dimension, circumventing mainstream piano genres.

Aaron currently divides his time between studying for his doctoral degree in ethnomusicology (Columbia University), recording and performing. His current project envisages the piano as a sampling machine. Disco, tango, rock and R&B are some of the grooves he pays homage to.
