Zubz is a SouthERN African rapper (Zambian born, Zimbabwe raised, South African resident). 1/9th of the Origins Band. An artiste on Outrageous Records known for his incredible and inspired lyrical commentary. An MC of the highest caliber, with exceptional producer and song-writing ability, Zubz is Hip Hop's alternative to the current status quo.
After making his mark in Grahamstown South Africa, the rest of South Africa started to feel Zubz's lyrical force when he took out Jozi MC's and won a major battle at legendary club 206 and graced the stage alongside Talib Kweli, dead prez, Black Thought and Jeru da Damaja at Black August. He started being heard on radio and CD players when his songs as part of The Originz (a group he created with Botswana-based songstress Hope) were featured on Outrageous' debut CD Rage. That CD featured the super powerful tracks "Family Of One" and "The Originz", next his voice was heard on the Expressions compilation's ode to women "Multiple Choice" and then on H20's hit "African".
In between all those recordings he was busy in the Outrageous Records' studio creating tracks for his dream album. "There were so many tracks, that I knew I wasn't going to put on the album, so I decided to release them!" It wasn't an ordinary release; he gave the CD entitled Last Letta to the public for free.
His debut album Listers Digest reflects thoughts, ideas, influences and experiences Zubz has gone through since he began dreaming of his own album "I've been trying to release my debut album for 10 years, and its taken me till now to get to a point where I was ready to come out "the elements needed to be right, the timing had to be right. "The time is right now and the result is a CD packed with the tightest rhymes you could ever expect covering everything from hip hop battles to love and life, there's plenty to digest, as he says "19 tracks and one remix"
His second album is called Headphone Music in a parallel world.
Zubz says Headphone Music contains some of his most conscious efforts to date, which he attributes to a “mental and paradigm shift” while touring with his band The Origins in Finland and Norway earlier this year. Aside from performing, he participated in forums and panel discussions tied to African History Week in Norway and the Young African Project in Finland: “I met some very radical pro-Black and Pro-African people, and when you start speaking about what the reality is in South Africa, it hits you: ‘Is this how we are living?’ You realise that, as an MC, you have a role to play, to be like Morpheus presenting Neo with the choice of two pills in The Matrix,” he says pointing out songs such as Fight Back! and Get Out!, which ask uneasy questions about the new South African dream.
