Yorke - a bookie's favourite
18 July 06 - Thom Yorke, Arctic Monkeys, and Guillemots will be scrapping it out for the 2006 Nationwide Mercury Prize.
Other nominees on the 12-strong shortlist include Editors, Hot Chip, Muse, Scritti Politti and Richard Hawley.
The book-maker, William Hill, have already put Arctic Monkeys and Thom Yorke as the 5-1 favourites to take home the gong. But there was no room for Lily Allen, the upcoming British star has just had a number one with her debut single Smile - many music experts expected her to be shortlisted.
Editors' inclusion also comes as a big suprise - their debut album has been around for quite a while already.
It was Jools Holland who announced the 12 albums that will battle it out for this year's prize during a small ceremony at London's Commonwealth Club.
Here's the full shortlist:
Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not
Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan - Ballad Of The Broken Seas
