There are at least two bands called ZAO, the first of which are still active, the latter haven’t done anything since 1994:

1) Zao (pronounced /ˈzeɪ.oʊ/) is a band from Greensburg, Pennsylvania and are considered one of the founding metalcore groups. However they began in 1993 in Parkersburg, West Virginia, playing a style of Hardcore similar to bands such as Earth Crisis and Snapcase. Zao has hosted several musicians and endured numerous roster changes to the point where no original members remain, often marked by the departure and readmission of multiple members. The band’s catalog is often divided into two distinct eras, marked by a drastic shift in members that led to an equally drastic shift in sound. Most noticeably of these changes was the shift from vocalist Shaun Jonas who later formed Symphony in Peril to current front-man Dan Weyandt. Throughout the years, Zao has hosted many notable musicians such as guitarist Brett Detar of The Juliana Theory fame and current drummer Jeff Gretz who briefly played for From Autumn To Ashes. In the eyes of many fans, the “core” of Zao’s sound was best exemplified by drummer Jesse Smith, guitarists Russ Cogdell and Scott Mellinger(formerly of Creation Is Crucifixion), and vocalist Dan Weyandt. The current lineup is comprised of Russ, Scott, Dan, Jeff, and bass player and long time friend of the band, Martin Lunn.

They've 'promised' a new album this year. Hope it happens, I love the recent albums as much as Blood and Fire/Liberate/Self-Titled. TFIWKUH might be joint favourite with Liberate, so brutal.

I guess it was just me then or maybe at the time the kids weren't really digging it I'll give it another shot why not? Honestly never was a huge Zao fan so I could be wrong.

I've been on this site for years. When will you people get over the fact that there are bands with the same name? When will you start appreciating the artist you actually enjoy instead of focusing on the one you don't? Silly internet warriors

"Modern metalcore fans have no idea what they're missing. [8] Yeah, they'd much rather listen to crappy metalcore than zeuhl greatness. I feel genuinely sorry for them." There is no need for that ignorant crappy thinking...because Zao hardcore/metalcore band is awesome.Zeuhl is pretty outdated sub-genre of progressive rock or whatever it is, so nothing strange to see a lot of Zao (metal) fans here...These are not `70 for god sake.

I love how half of the people who copied the "modern metalcore fans" comment are fans of the Zeuhl band, and the other half is "trve kvlt metalcore" fans.

That feel when a metal band shares a name with a genuinely good avant-prog band. [2] Zao is zeuhl!
