About this album
Eliminator is the eighth studio album by American blues-rock band ZZ Top, released in 1983. It was the band’s most successful album, having reached Diamond status. The album is a successful blend of blues rock and analog synthesizers. In 1989, it was ranked #39 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the The 100 Greatest Albums of the 80s. In 2003, the album was ranked number 396 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
It is their first album since ZZ Top’s First Album not to have a title related to Hispanic culture, although when asked about this Gibbons quipped that it’s “El Iminator”.
In the UK, it was the band’s first album to be certified by the British Phonographic Industry, attaining Silver (60,000 units) in 1984. By the year end, it was certified Platinum (300,000 units) and currently it is certified 4 x Platinum.
