• The Herbaliser - Same As It Never Was

    23 Jun 2008, 12:11 by jeej

Same As It Never Was is The Herbaliser’s sixth LP and it’s out now on !K7.

As I mentioned the other week, this is somewhat new territory for The Herbaliser. Incorporating extra members on a more permanent basis with a focus on finding a more organic sound than before. I’m sure, like me, you’ve seen The Herbaliser travel through the various elements of hip-hop, turntablism and electronica, and although these stylings can be heard throughout Same As It Never Was, there has been a definite shift… as promised really.

What we have here is an LP spanning twelve tracks of pure dynamite. Don’t be alarmed, at times it will sound very different to what you’ve come to expect from the guys, but that is exactly the point: Same As It Never Was.

    01. Same As It Never Was
    02. On Your Knees (feat Jessica Darling)
    03. Just Won’t Stop (feat Yungun Aka Essa)
    04. The Next Spot
    05. Can’t Help This Feeling (feat Jessica Darling)
    06. Amores Bongo

Hammock - Maybe They Will Sing for Us Tomorrow (Darla)

Hammock never fails to dissolve the illusion of time and space, break down the matrix of structured rules, and unplug from the looping pattern of being. Hammock makes me close my eyes and with the flow of sound hear my breathing. …
  • Same as it never was... New Herbaliser album!

    12 May 2008, 17:05 by zephirnl

It's going to be great, as you can sample here. Instead of the omnipresence of Jean Grae on the last album, here Jessica Darling is the most featured vocalist (5 tracks), but Jean still gets her part on one track. The other featured artists are More Or Les and Yungun (a.k.a. Essa), each on one track. In general the sound seems more organic and raw, with less of an electronic feel, which seems to really work out well. But why are you still reading? Go check it out for yourself!

jeej already blogged a bit about other news, it seems that the Herbaliser are now releasing on !K7 instead of their usual label Ninja Tune. I think it could be because the new sound is rather organic sounding, but no matter the label, the album is funky as hell and on my want-list as of now.

Check it out, you're worth it!

I totally forgot to link this to The Herbaliser. …
