her screamy stuff gets the most attention but something like "i have a woman inside my soul" deserves more. it's simply nothing less than a genuinely beautiful song. softly cathy, gently sung and with curious, sad lyrics. i've played it to people who claim to 'hate' yoko ono for her perceived lack of talent and its made them think twice.

@Rup23 - I understand that Yoko isn't your idea of a talented artist but your arguments are very weak, I don't get the impression you've actually sat down with an open mind and listened to her music. Yoko has a different kind of talent but she is no less talented, she's a great songwriter and has great and creative musical ideas that are executed well in her music. I hope one day you can learn to see what her fans see, but you must be more open minded I feel. Yoko can actually sing when she wants to but she likes to keep things unconventional which is why I love her, try her album "Approximately Infinite Universe" and come back to the discussion, I hope you like what you hear. :-)

Yoko is an artist, people need to keep this in mind, and I mean I REAL artist (yes there is such a thing), this sadly goes over a lot of people's head. She's my favourite artist at this present time, admire her work.

And, ironically, that Fireworks video is pretty cool. A little old lady took a rubbish pop song and turned it into something that causes a reaction in people. Well done.

I must add: it's downright hilarious when a non-fan spends time finding the "worst" examples of an artist just to prove to everyone that they're incorrect in enjoying her music.

Rup23: "I have some personal reason to go on the page of an artist I'm unfamiliar with to talk shit! Most likely a combination of insecurity and boredom! When I mentioned Lennon bringing her up on stage I clearly admitted the reason I am against Ono in the first place! I am exactly one of those people who holds a grudge for the nonsense reason of her breaking up the Beatles! Oh no, someone called me out on this!"

You are displaying a cultural ignorance as much as an artistic one [2] V why do you come here to complain about Yoko Ono if you have no appreciation or knowledge about most of her music and then get upset and defensive when someone highlights that salient fact?

    November 2013
  • Rup23

So what about the time she decided to belt out some dolphin noises while John Lennon jammed with Chuck Berry? Crying out for attention with a complete lack of respect? What do you say about that?

    November 2013
  • Rup23

You don't even know me and my knowledge but you can already judge me, how cute of you. I didn't say that she is an ambassador of abstact art, she is like abstract art, some people like her but some people find her understandable, like me. And I do know that John Lennon met her on one of her shows, I'm aware of all of this. Hear this http://youtu.be/cRV0ACUlHzc , sadly I don't find any ressemblance between this and Yoko Ono's singing style. I don't understand her, I don't find any beauty in her vocal range and the use of it in her music. Thus I find her "Talentless". And again you're showing off. I'm compared to you a " wannabe-sophisticated NME reader". You should be more down to earth, music is for everybody and judging someone through their music taste is just stupid.

    November 2013
  • sunheadbowed

You're also wrong about Ono being "abstract art" -- much of her music is rooted in psychedelic rock and pop. Her vocal style, which most of you Ono-bashers are terrified of, is based on Japanese folk traditions -- a style which is far older than your beloved James Blake employs. You are displaying a cultural ignorance as much as an artistic one. Those traditions were crossed with a guttural word-less (and thus translatable to every human being with an open mind -- inclusive rather than elitist) insanely powerful screaming that predicted new wave, no wave, art rock, punk rock, post-punk and other styles -- you know, all those styles that Radiohead saturated in the 90's and made into easy-listening for the wannabe-sophisticated NME readers. And cheers for the Fireworks video! I'd never have believed that terrible song could ever have any depth.

    November 2013
  • sunheadbowed

The problem is that you're deeply out of your depth. Yoko Ono studied under John Cage and LaMonte Young (google them) before she ever met John Lennon. She was famous in the art world before she ever met John Lennon; Lennon went to one of her shows to meet her. She moved to New York before she ever met John Lennon. If you ever want to debate with others on the subject of Ono you will have to actually learn your shit first. I don't care if Lennon was "her bitch" -- your misplaced misogyny is irrelevant. No one is "butthurt" -- people do find mindless stereotypical drones like yourself rather repetitive on this shoutbox, however. Not unlike most insecure people with 'opinions', you wish to give yours, but you don't want anyone to exercise their own opinion in return. If any of you ever said anything original, or displayed the slightest glimmer of music knowledge, it may be taken seriously.

    November 2013
  • Rup23

I didn't say she's talentless because she presumably made The Beatles split up. I just said: "Talentless", because I think so. You know her thanks to John Lennon, if not him you would never discover her. Now, John Lennon was Yoko Ono's bitch, and I'm serious, he brought her up to any goddamn place. In the middle of a concert she could just take a microphone and scream, like she's being stabbed in the heart. Yoko Ono is like Abstract art, some people like me, just don't understand it. You think that she is some kind of piece of art, you bless her and idolize her, protect her and think that we are wrong. You should remember the word "opinion" exists, you're having a butthurt. And I'm not even doubting that you think that the people that don't understand her are "mindless", stupid and that we listen to mainstream music like a stupid cattle. http://youtu.be/lrJz9Dh5MsM If you think that she has a talent after watching this video then you're a bunch of hypocrites.

If you think Yoko Ono is talentless because "OMG she broke up the Beatles!!!" or "OMG look at this art museum video i found lol it's sucks so bad and its' ghey!!!111" then you've obviously never really sat down and tried to keep an open mind about music.

of course things like bigotry and discrimination make me angry. bad manners annoy me. but don't fucking talk to me if you think yoko ono has no talent. fair enough, she's an acquired taste. but don't tell me that she has no talent and that no one likes her music. because i do. and millions of people do. that kind of shit makes me passionately angry. IT UPSETS ME. i know i'm messed up.
