Yngwie Malmsteen is one of rock’s premiere virtuoso guitarists. Along with Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Eddie Van Halen, and a handful of others, Yngwie has dominated the world of solo guitar for two decades. When he was barely 20, Yngwie exploded onto the music scene with his jaw-dropping technique of lightning fast harmonic minor scalar riffing. His 1984 album, “Yngwie J. Malmsteen’s Rising Force,” established seemingly overnight the style now referred to a neo-classical melodic rock. A legend in both style and technique, Yngwie’s long career reach new heights when his totally classical work for orchestra and solo electric guitar, “Concerto Suite,” was released, proving that his classical credentials were genuine. Gildaren: If you look at Malmsteen's official website's discography you'll notice that all of the albums are under "Yngwie Malmsteen solo albums". Rising Force (the band) isn't even mentioned. In my opinion this should be merged to Yngwie Malmsteen.

He admitted in an interview he would have just called his band Rising Force, except that band members kept trying to take control. That's why through the 90's the Rising Force name was absent.

The real difference is basically that the non-Rising Force albums are more "sellout" material. They have Yngwie exploring pop, blues, and straight up hard rock. Whereas the Rising Force albums are mostly just the Yngwie we know and love. It's all good stuff though.
